Piedmont women’s basketball senior guard Livia Skinner, a former Armuchee High standout, was named USA South Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Rome native was instrumental in helping the Lady Lions to a 2-0 record at the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament in Greencastle, Indiana, held Dec. 29-30.
Over the two wins against Franklin and No. 9 DePauw, Skinner averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game.
She began the week by pouring in a team-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds and a pair of three-pointers in the 85-63 win over Franklin.
However, she saved her best for last, scoring 20 points in Piedmont’s 75-74 overtime win at No. 9 DePauw to win the tournament title. Skinner scored a game-high 20 points while adding seven assists and knocking down three shots from long range. In the deciding overtime period, she tallied nine of Piedmont’s 13 points and assisted on another basket. The win marked the first in the program’s NCAA Era (since 2003) over a top-10 opponent.
This marks Skinner’s first USA South weekly award.
The Lady Lions are currently scheduled to return to the court Thursday at Agnes Scott.
