Mrs. Jean Cooley Slater, age 90, of Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday morning, June 29, 2021, at her residence. Jean was born January 27, 1931, in Chattanooga, TN, daughter of the late Fred W. Cooley and Lela Griffin Cooley. She grew up in Chattanooga and Rossville, GA, prior to moving to Rome in 1971. Jean was a member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ. She had worked at Burger King in West Rome for over 34 years, retiring in 2008. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Slater, on September 11, 2007, whom she married October 30, 1954. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Pluma Cooley, and four brothers, J.D. Cooley, Paul W. Cooley, Fred "Babe" Cooley and Glen Monroe "Bo" Cooley. Jean is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Todd Wood of Kingston, GA, and Michele and Jason Beall of Rome; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jeannie Slater of Rome; four grandchildren, Bryce Beall, Anna Grace Wood, Kaitlyn Wood and Brylee Beall. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services for Jean will be Friday, July 2, 2021, at 12:00 noon in the Alvis Miller Memorial Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Minister Michael Farris and Mr. Steve Murdock officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens in Rossville. Jean's family will receive friends at Salmon Funeral Home Friday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour. Pallbearers will include Bryce Beall, Jason Beall, Todd Wood, Tim Cooley and Daryl Hendricks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Jean's honor to Hyman HospiceCare at Floyd 420 East Second Avenue, # 105, Rome, GA, 30161.
