Mr. James Robert "Shorty" Gray, age 78, of Armuchee, GA, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021, at a local hospital. Shorty was born in Baldwin County, GA on December 4, 1942, son of the late James Harold Gray and the late Elsie Mae Williams Gray. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Etta Stanley and Frances Brooks. Shorty was a 1960 graduate of Armuchee High School. He is a veteran of the United States Army. Shorty retired from General Electric after 39 years of service. He loved horses and turned that love into a business, having owned "Shorty's Saddle and Tac Company" for over 30 years. Shorty was an active member of the Floyd Spring Lodge #167 F. & A. M. and was a member of Floyd Spring United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Carroll Gray, to whom he was married on June 25, 1964; 2 daughters, Kelley Gray Harris and Dana Gray; 2 granddaughters, Rio Bethany Harris and Peyton Gray Harris; great-grandson, Wilder James Atkins; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with the Rev. Patrick Hopper and Chaplain David Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in West Union Baptist Church Cemetery with the Floyd Springs Lodge #167 having charge of graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 12pm until 1:45pm on Thursday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167 will serve as pallbearers and are to assemble by 1:30pm on Thursday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge #167. Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of funeral arrangements.
