Donald Googe

Mr. Donald Wayne Googe, age 73, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Thomaston, Georgia. He was the son of the late Austin Lincoln and Mary Magdelene Clements Googe. Mr. Googe was a member of the Day Spring Assembly of God. Prior to retirement, Mr. Googe served three years in the US Army, attended Coosa Valley Technical School (Radio and TV/Electronics), he worked at Rome Plow and Jockey Menswear in Cedartown. He retired from Georgia Power with 34 years of service as lead lineman at the Rome Division and 1 & 2 test shop technician at Plant Bowen in Taylorsville, Georgia. Donald's interest during his life, before being disabled with Multiple Sclerosis, was fixing things. He could fix anything...cars, machinery, appliances, toys, electronic items and the list goes on. If he had parts left over, he figured they were not needed anyway. So, we have multiple coffee cans of "left over" parts. His favorite motto - when all else fails, read the instructions. He could even fix a broken heart. He liked to weld, do things with his tractor, and he did a lot of work in building our house. Other things he enjoyed were boating, camping, skiing, fishing, riding horses, and swimming. Donald cared about his family, friends, and was compassionate in helping others. He helped in raising his three grandchildren and enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews. Making jokes and laughing with people was also a joy for him. He was a believer in the Lord and was baptized in a little creek off Chulio Road, Rome, GA by Robert Anderson of Day Spring Assembly of God. He insisted on saying prayers first thing in the morning, before going to bed, and at the table before eating. Mr. Googe is survived by his wife, Eugenia Whatley Googe; children, Helen Michele Googe Deems, Hunter M. Deems, Brittany F. Deems, and Tanner B. Deems; brothers, Ralph "Buddy" Googe, James Googe, Ronald Googe, and Greg Padgett; and extended family of Mrs. Googe, Annice Whatley of LaGrange, Georgia, and Sarah Lynette Osborne of Cedartown, Georgia.
