Cornelia Daniel Gamble, age 86, passed away Friday May 14, 2021. Born in 1934 in Knoxville, TN, she lived most of her life in Rome, GA. Cornelia graduated from Rome High School in 1952, where she edited the newspaper and was the valedictorian. She was known for her full head of Titian red hair and radiant smile. Cornelia went on to marry her high school sweetheart Norris Gamble in 1957. Norris and Cornelia were the proud parents of two daughters, Lara and Alice. After Lara's death, they lovingly adopted and raised their granddaughters, Melissa and Alicia. Cornelia graduated magna cum laude from Shorter College in 1957 with a degree in Mathematics. She then worked for Reese Huffman Insurance and later taught both Adult Education and at Headstart. Cornelia was a true Southern lady and gracious hostess, who loved to entertain, bake, and welcomed all with an open door. She found great joy in service to her community. She spent many years dedicated to victims of domestic violence as a volunteer and Board Member of Hospitality House of Rome. Additionally, she served as Community Chairman and Treasurer of AAUW. Cornelia also spent years volunteering at local schools, the Rome Area Council for the Arts, the Rome Little Theater, and the Presbyterian Church. Cornelia adored all of the performing arts — especially watching Norris and generations of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren perform. She spent her later years being delighted by the accomplishments and antics of her great-grandchildren Lara, Olivia, Caleb, Logan, and Quinn. Cornelia will be missed and remembered by many. She is now peacefully reunited with the love of her life, Norris, who preceded her in death. A family graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospitality House for Women or Silver Creek Presbyterian Church in memory of Cornelia.
