Floyd County has seen an increase in covid positivity rates in recent days, says Dr. Gary Voccio, health director for the Georgia Department of Public Health's Northwest Health District.
Floyd County is at 9% as are other counties in our area, says Voccio. One factor to consider: We're also seeing a number of home tests performed and some of those results are being counted.
Omicron continues to be the suspect in the majority of cases, he says, although other variants are being tracked. Vaccination numbers remain "stagnant" across the region as well.
Hospitalizations remain in single digits as well, says Voccio.
That includes Rome’s hospitals where 7 COVID patients were being treated on Friday, down 2 from Thursday:
♦ Atrium Health Floyd: 4 patients, down 1; another patient waiting test results.
♦ AdventHealth Redmond: 3 patients, down 1.
♦ Highest since pandemic began: 221 on Sept. 10, 2021.
♦ Lowest since pandemic began: 2 on June 1, 2020, and on May 16, 2022.
Weekly report: 3 more deaths were reported in Northwest Georgia for the week ending Wednesday. One fatality each was reported in Floyd, Bartow and Polk counties. There also were 197 new cases in the region for that week.Â
