Truck hits utility pole on Ga. 100

Update: A Piedmont, Alabama man, was sent to the hospital following a wreck on Ga. 100 Friday afternoon. Jeffrey Winkles, 50, was driving a white Dodge Dakota pickup that left the roadway, police said. There were no passengers.

A white Dodge Dakota pickup truck apparently veered off of of Fosters Mille Road heading south Friday afternoon and struck a pole with a power transformer and live power lines.
The wreck occured approximately 100 yards north of Live Oak Baptist Church, at 5455 Fosters Mill Road, where the truck hit the utility pole before slamming into a tree.
The driver was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, however there are no details on who the person is or what condition they are in at this time.
Fosters Mill Road, also known as Ga. 100, is currently closed at the wreck site due to live power lines laying across the roadway.
The damage to the pole and the lines has left 179 Georgia Power customers without power in the area of the wreck, according to the utility's outage map. Power is expected to be restored around 7:45 p.m.

Dale Byars, pastor at Bush Arbor Baptist Church on Black's Bluff Road, spoke with law enforcement at the scene who estimated it may be several hours before the mess is cleaned up.

It's not known if any serious injuries were reported.
