Dispatchers at 911 were hit with phone calls late Saturday night after an explosion or boom was heard in a large portion of Floyd County around 9:15 p.m.

Firefighters searched several places for the cause, but called it off after about an hour.

Residents from Riverside, Summerville Park and all the way to Berry and Armuchee and even off Horseleg Creek Road reported to 911 what “sounded like an explosion.”

Jordan Brooks, one of the first to call 911 about the noise, said the boom shook his home at 1 Dogwood St.

“I just jumped up and started looking around,” added Brooks. “We thought something had exploded so we called it in.”

Even Floyd Emergency Medical Services reported hearing the boom at their headquarters on Riverside Parkway.

Michael Blackstock said on Facebook that he heard it near Alto Park on Burnett Ferry Road.
