Second Avenue was blocked for a time Thursday after a vehicle struck a pedestrian on the bridge. The person went over the bridge and onto the path below.
According to the Rome Police Department:
On Thursday afternoon Floyd 911 dispatch reported that a vehicle versus pedestrian accident occurred on Second Avenue in the area near the levee. When first responders arrived at the scene they found that a pedestrian had been struck on the bridge near Safe Lock & Key and knocked under the bridge onto the path below.
According to 911 dispatch, first responders performed CPR on the pedestrian and Atrium Health Floyd EMS rushed them to the hospital where they were still being treated Thursday night.
Assistant Police Chief Debbie Burnett said investigators determined the driver left the roadway twice but are still working on what happened and why.
