A Cedar Bluff, Ala., man died early Wednesday in a Cherokee County wreck involving an 18-wheeler carrying chickens, officials said.
Thomas Gayler, 55, was driving a Nissan 370Z on U.S. 411, near County Road 113, when he collided with a tractor-trailer carrying live chickens, Cherokee County Coroner Broderick Smith said.
“It was a two-vehicle, head-on, car versus tractor-trailer,” Smith added.
Floyd Medical Center spokesman Bill Forten berry said Gayler had been employed as an emergency room nurse at Polk Medical Center since March and had done some specific project work for them over the last two years.
Gayler was pronounced dead at 5:50 a.m. CDT. He died of multiple traumatic injuries, Smith said.
Alabama State Troopers are investigating the wreck, Sgt. Steve Jarrett said.
