A Cartersville man is charged with murder, accused of using a hammer to beat a woman to death on Tuesday.
According to Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap:
Cory James Slaughter, 29, was arrested on Dec. 2 after an investigation into the incident on Old Allatoona Road.
He is charged with murder.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the residence around 4:08 p.m. to a domestic violence incident in progress. The caller said a woman was being assaulted by a man with a hammer.
When they arrived, the woman was dead.
“Deputies and investigators received information from witnesses that the suspect had fled the area on foot,” Millsap said in a statement. “After a four-hour search, a (Bartow County Sheriff’s Office) drone located the suspect hiding in a wooded area nearby.”
At this point the victim’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.
