Preston Peck of Floyd County 4-H won first place statewide in the 2020 Georgia 4-H Watermelon Growing Contest. Preston’s watermelon grew a monstrous 108 lbs. The contest offers the opportunity to exhibit knowledge and ability to cultivate and grow one or more watermelons over a regulated period of time. Growing the heaviest watermelon incorporates skills including measurement, preparation, research and patience. Common problem solving, such as insect patrol, are essential elements gained throughout this experience.
