Julia and Marvin Jackson

Fifty years of loving, caring & sharing… Marvin Jackson and Julia Phillips were married July 1, 1966 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Plainville by Rev. Ellis Cowart.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on June 25, 2016 with a reception given by their daughters at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. The couple also renewed their vows in front of friends and family.

Even though Marvin worked on a milk truck and delivered milk to Judy’s neighbor they didn’t meet until a friend set them up on a blind date.

Marvin grew up in Scottsville and attended Calhoun High School. He worked for Trend Carpets for 20 years. He also worked for Pinson Contractors, John Berry Contractors and Berry College. Marvin has been a pastor for 23 years serving at Northwood Baptist Church and East View Baptist Church, where he continues to serve.

Julia attended Johnson High School and graduated from Model High School. She worked for Coosa Carpets and Trend Carpets early in the marriage and then became a Floyd County School Bus Driver so she could be at home with her children. She also worked for Berry College for almost 12 years.

Since getting married the couple have lived most of their life in Rome. They have two daughters: Lori and Pat Little of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Lisa and Carlton Ulmer of Panama City Beach, Florida. They have been richly blessed with five grandchildren: Lauren and Daniel Little of Chattanooga and Logan, Dawson and Julia Ulmer of Panama City Beach, Florida.

The couple are members of East View Baptist Church and are very active with the church. Marvin is also very active with the Floyd County Recreation Senior Softball league. He enjoys playing ball and Judy is always there to support him.

They also enjoy being with friends and family, gardening, camping and fishing when they can find the time. They say the happiest times in their 50 years of marriage has been the birth of their children and grandchildren. They attribute their longevity in marriage to their faith and always giving 100 percent to the marriage.
