The losing streak is history.

The Armuchee Indians (1-0) celebrated a 10-7 season-opening triumph over Towns County (0-1) in Hiawassee. It is Armuchee’s first win since Nov. 2, 2018, snapping a 10-game losing streak.

“Great team win that we had to grind together as a family to win,” Indians head coach Jeremy Green wrote in a text message. “Showed a ton of toughness and resilience.”

Trailing 7-2 in the fourth quarter, the Indians gained possession and a 30-yard flea-flicker pass to junior wide receiver JJ House got the team in business. Moments later, sophomore quarterback Chandler DeSanto found junior wide receiver Will Daniel for what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown strike.

A subsequent two-point conversion gave Armuchee enough to escape with a resounding three-point victory.

The Indians are on a bye next week.

They return to action on Friday, Sept. 18, as they host the Coosa Eagles at H.A. Lindsey Stadium at Armuchee High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
