A Rock Spring, Ga., man was arrested on drug charges in Fort Oglethorpe after he was caught shoplifting from the K-Mart on Battlefield Parkway, police say.
According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:
Forrest Chase Miller, 21, of Colbert Hollow Road, was arrested Feb. 16 on charges of possessing oxycodone, possessing alprazolam, and shoplifting. He has been released from jail on bond.
The incident occurred around 3:20 p.m., when employees observed Miller allegedly stealing from within the store.
Employees claimed Miller selected several items of merchandise and then concealed them in his pockets, reports show.
He then passed all points of sale with the merchandise, some of which was in his hands.
While walking out, Miller accidentally dropped a red cigarette pack on the ground behind him.
“Lt. Ray Bowman advised he saw Miller drop the cigarette pack and then kick it away,” officer Patrick Stooksbury said. “Inside the cigarette pack, I located one round blue pill identified as oxycodone, two round green pills identified as oxycodone, and two yellow rectangular pills identified as alprazolam.”
Miller told officers the pills belonged to his cousin who’d left them at his house, reports show.
“Mr. Miller also stated that his mother had told him to dispose of them (the pills) because if he could be charged if caught with them,” Stooksbury said.
Overall, Miller allegedly attempted to steal more than $230 worth of goods, which included knives, batteries, makeup, cables, and assorted costume jewelry.
