A man faces numerous traffic charges after a one-vehicle crash on Brock Road.
Officers from Polk County, Rockmart, and the sheriff’s department were called to 742 Brock Road around 5:30 p.m. on June 7 to handle an wreck with injuries.
County police reports state the driver fled his vehicle with a gun.
Polk County police noticed a heavily damaged GMC Sierra van at a residence. Officers said the van appeared to have flipped over several times.
Rockmart officers and Polk County sheriff’s deputies had apprehended the driver, identified as Clay C. Beatty, 39, of 205 Knox Mountain Road, Rockmart, and the found gun Beatty was allegedly carrying in a field behind the house.
Beatty was unsteady on his feet and could not walk straight, reports said. He refused to give police a blood sample, reports said.
The gun, its case, and six bullets were turned over by other officers to the arresting county officer, according to reports.
Beatty was taken to Polk Medical Center for a cut on his hand that required stitches. He was then booked at the Polk County Jail on charges of DUI, driving with a suspended or revoked license, hit and run, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of an undivided street and failing to report striking a fixed object.
The gun items were put in an evidence case to be given back to Beatty when he was released from jail.
He was released from jail on June 9.
