Polk County Animal Control wants to make sure that pets within the shelter have every opportunity of finding forever homes.

Officials have reduced the adoption fees for cats for the time being to help encourage adoptions. The fee for cat adoptions is now $10. The adoption fee for dogs remains $40.

Layla is a beautiful Pointer/Anatolian Shepherd mix. Her ID No. is 48860946. She is four years old and weighs about 70 pounds. She is mostly white except for brown on her ears and a spot at the top of her head. She has a coat and curl at the end of her tail like the shepherd. She has received her distemper/parvo vaccines. She may have already been spayed but will need a veterinarian to confirm. Layla is very friendly and enjoys attention. She walks on leash and will sit when asked. We would recommend a home without cats but she appears to be fine with other dogs. Layla would be a great family pet.

Luna is an adult Calico/Tabby mix. Her ID No. is 48860975. She has very unusual coat coloring. She is orange, black and white like the calico but has tabby stripes throughout and the classic Tabby “M” on her forehead. Her eyes are amber/green. She has received an FVRCP vaccine. Luna is very affectionate. She is calm and curious but also likes to play. She would be a beautiful addition to any family.
