Mrs. Moore

Louise Reid Moore, 82, 524 Jefferson St., Cedartown, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2004 at a local hospital following an extended illness.

She was born April 23, 1922 in Newnan, Ga. to the late Milo and Delia Smith Reid.

Mrs. Moore is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Robert Moore; two sisters, Magge Lee Reid Williams and Vera Reid, and a brother, Willie James Reid.

Surviving are: son, Mondel Pollard of Richardson, Tex., five daughters, Alice S. Thornton, Burnis Whatley, Meril Dennis, Jean Sims and Weater Carol Hammock, all of Cedartown; one sister, Annella Douthard; two brothers, Frank Reid and Smith Reid of Columbus, Oh.; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 12, at 2 p.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Daniel and other ministers officiating.

Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens.

Wright Memorial Mortuary, Inc. of Rome had charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Grant

Nellie Mae Hardin Grant, 88, of Hazelhurst, Ga., passed away Monday, March 22, 2004 in the Jeff Davis hospital.

She was born April 5, 1915 in Cedartown and was a homemaker and bookkeeper in Cedartown until 1955, when she and her husband moved to Hazelhurst. Mrs. Grant was employed as Hazelhurst city clerk for 19 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Gordon Hardin and Sarah Elephair Taylor Hardin; husband, Linton Grant; brother, John Max Hardin; sister, Katherine Lenora Hardin Salter and niece, Faye Avalon Daniel.

Surviving are: sister-in-law, Virginia Grant McCurdy of Cedartown; nephew, Dr. Grant Lewis of Rome, a great-niece and two great-nephews, one great-great niece and nephew and one great-great- great neice.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Thursday, March 25, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Miles Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Owens officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hazelhurst Cemetery in Jeff Davis County.

Mr. Posey

Bobby Gerald Posey, 66, of 528 Hunter St., Rockmart, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004.

He was born Sept. 13, 1937 in Haralson County, son of the late Vassie Leatherwood Posey and the late Leonard Posey. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. Prior to retirement Mr. Posey was employed with the State of Georgia Department of Transportation.

Mr. Posey is survived by: two sisters, Doress Robinson of Rockmart and Joy Barrett of Summerton S.C.; and a niece and nephew also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 23, at 4 p.m., in the Chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Brown, Rev. Larry Davis and Dr. Tony Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Tripp Barret, Wade Felkel, James Dover, Sonny Milholland, Joshua Milholland and David Hutcheson, Jr. served as pallbearers. David Hutcheson, Sr. served as an honorary pallbearer.

Mrs. Grupe

Edith Munroe Grupe, 82, of 410 Mildred St., Cedartown, passed away Monday, March 22, 2004.

She was born March 24, 1921 and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, member of the Munroe Clan Scottsman. Mrs. Grupe also served in the U.S. Army as a nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin C. Grupe; father, Jesse G. Munroe and mother, Katie E. Munroe.

Surviving are: sons, Jonathan Allen Grupe of Denver, Co.; Fredrick Charles Grupe of Madison, Oh.; two brothers, Charles Munroe of Oklahoma and Rosco Munroe of Texas and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 24 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Lester Litesey Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Brewster-Clevland Post #86.

Mr. Knight

Allen Ray Knight, 51, of 813 Billy Pyle Road, Rome, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004 in a local hospital.

He was born in Dayton, Tenn. on March 11, 1953, the son of the late Melvin Knight and Kathleen Calvin Knight.

Mr. Knight was employed by the Rome City Water Department and was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are: his wife Rosie Silvers Knight; son, Benjamin Allen Knight of Cedartown; three step-sons, Robert Allen Hudgens of Euharlee; David Ray Hudgens of Rome and Timothy Lynn Allen of Rome; daughter, Miranda Dawn Knight of Cedartown; nine sisters, Crystal Richards of Cedartown, Bobbie Isom, Rita Puryear, Patsy Vandiver, Carolyn Wade, Teresa Smith, Regina Knight, Nancy Nelson and Rhonda McCord, all of Rome; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ingram

Julie Oderene Ingram, 88, of 1163 Old Cedartown Road, Rockmart, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004.

Mrs. Ingram was born July 4, 1915 in Cedartown, daughter of the late Lula Bowman Brazier and the late Frank Braizer.

She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church of Cedartown was employed with the Polk School District at Eastside Elementary School in Rockmart.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands, James Caroll Couey and Melt Lorrens.

Surviving are: husband, Emmitt L. Ingram; three daughters, Margaret Jo Merritt of Cedartown, Mary Lou Ballew of Atlanta; Jo Cheatwood of Cedartown; a brother, Amos Brazier of Cedartown; six grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 22, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of the Freeman Funeral Home with the Rev. Royce Campbell officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of the Pine Bower Baptist Church in Cedartown.

Pallbearers were: Jr. Ballew, Bill Carmichael, Jerry Baldwin, Jack Ingram, Steve Ingram and Tony Ingram.

Mrs. Dowda

Frances Elizabeth Dowda, 72, of Lowrey Road, Rockmart, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004.

Mrs. Dowda was born June 10, 1931 in Atlanta, daughter of the late Nellie Miller Snipes and the late Gene Snipes.

She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Dowda was preceded in death by her husband, James H. “Groundhog” Dowda and a grandson, Larry Evans, Jr.

Surviving are: three daughters, Connie Evans of Dallas, Ga., Lorraine Waits of Rockmart; Debbie McClain of Rockmart; four sons, Jimmy Dowda of Aragon, David Dowda of Cedartown, Hugh Dowda of Aragon, Barry Dowda of Cedartown; 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 21 at the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Rhodes officiating.

Interment followed in the in the family lot of Aragon Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Larry Evan, Larry Hicks, Pete Clevenger, Ladale Roberson, Nicholas Dowda and Casey Puckett.
