Since the GHSA went to eight classifications in 2016-17, only four schools have repeated as boys’ state basketball champions: Hughes in 6A (2017, 2018), Upson-Lee in 4A (2017, 2018), St. Francis in 1A Private (2019, 2020) and Wilkinson County (2017, 2018). A total of seven girls’ program have pulled off the feat in that same span. Buford won four in a row in 5A (2017-2020) and Westlake won three straight in 7A (2018-2020), while Johnson-Savannah in 3A (2018, 2019), Laney in 2A (2017, 2018), Douglass in 2A (2019, 2020), Wesleyan in 1A Private (2017, 2018) and Holy Innocents’ in 1A Private (2019, 2020) won back-to-back.
