The statewide report shows parts of Southwest Georgia are seeing a higher number of reported new covid cases. Northwest Georgia’s rate matched the overall state average.
New covid cases for the past seven days were the lowest reported since mid-September.
The latest report from the state Department of Public Health shows 128 new cases reported in our five counties for the seven days ending Wednesday afternoon, down from 239 a week earlier. There were 122 cases for the week ending Sept. 21.
A Floyd County resident also died from the virus last week. Since March 2020, covid has claimed 454 people from Floyd County.
A look at the week in our region’s counties:
♦ Floyd: 24 new cases vs. 99 as of Jan. 18.
♦ Bartow: 58 new cases vs. 77.
♦ Gordon: 13 cases vs. 20.
♦ Polk: 18 cases vs. 31.
♦ Chattooga: 15 cases, up from 12.
Hospitals:Â 11 patients were under care at Rome's hospitals on Thursday; seven at Atrium Health Floyd and four at AdventHealth Redmond.
Statewide: 113 people died from covid, up from 102 the previous week. The number of new reported cases dropped to 5,224, down from 6,132 through Jan. 18. Georgia’s death toll over nearly three years is 34,687.
