DEKALB COUNTY, Alabama – Seventeen people were rounded up in DeKalb County over the past 10 days and arrested on a variety of drug charges, including two women who had drugs inside the jail, according to Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
"These cases are the result of officers using good judgment and their training to get drugs off the street," Harris said. "These cases involve everything from marijuana to meth to cocaine. I am especially glad to have these trafficking and distribution cases made because that has been our goal for some time. I am troubled that drugs got into our facility but there are just some places you can't search without medical personnel on new inmates. Our staff found these drugs quickly and put a stop to it. Those ladies all have additional felony charges now because of their actions. This has been a busy month but we are having great success in our follow-up of community input. Our deputies and Drug Task Force Agents continue to work great with the city officers all over DeKalb County as we fight these battles."
