Six LaFayette firefighters, on Feb. 13, participated in a ladder bailout drill at the Palace Place building on the east side of LaFayette Square. The building is slated for demolition in the near future. Property owner Robert White allowed the firefighters to conduct bailout training inside and outside the building. "We are practicing punching through walls, such as the sheet rock, to go through other rooms so that we can isolate ourselves from the fire or the smoke," Assistant Chief Stacy Blalock said. "We are also training going up the stairs with our hose lines."
