It’s almost time for football again, and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Auxiliary is giving local youth players a chance to learn some new tips and tricks before the season starts in the next couple months.
Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston and the Sheriff’s Auxiliary will host their annual Football Clinic on July 15 at the Calhoun Recreation Department Football Field on McDaniel Station Road. The clinic is open to kids ages 6-13 and will go from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
The fee is $30 per participant and each participant will receive a free t-shirt and other special gifts. The youngsters will get a chance to learn from current and former football players, headlined by former Atlanta Falcons standout Elbert Shelley, who was a four-time Pro-Bowl selection.
Other guest instructors scheduled to be there include current Georgia Tech offensive lineman and former Sonoraville High standout Kenny Cooper, former Calhoun High and Hampden-Sydney quarterback Nash Nance, former Calhoun High and Savannah State defensive back DeShawn Printup and former Calhoun High and Central Florida linebacker Cody Ralston. Three of Cooper’s Georgia Tech teammates Joseph Macrina (linebacker), Jakob Brashear (linebacker) and Will Brian (offensive lineman) will also be on hand as instructors as well as various local players and coaches.
