Sonoraville’s Jones signs to play at next level at Berry

Sonoraville High senior Brooke Jones (seated, center) signed a basketball scholarship on Monday with the Berry College (Mount Berry, Ga.). Jones said of the signing: “It means a lot to me and also to my family. It hasn’t been easy. I had to work hard and take the initiative to help make it happen. My coaches have been great and have always pushed me, but I knew it was also on me deciding to take the initiative and do the extra work because I knew I wanted to take this past high school. Signing today means that all that hard work has paid off. (At Berry) the coaches are so nice, and I love the way they coach. The atmosphere and campus are great too. The big thing for me is education also. I’m looking to go to med school after I finish at Berry, and Berry’s Pre-Med program is amazing. So it wasn’t only about the athletics part of it. It was about the education too. I’m really excited for the next step. High school has been fun, and I feel like I’ve gotten really close to my friends especially over the past year. We’re not all going to be far from each other, but we’re not going to be together so that part is sad. But I’m looking forward to getting to Berry and excited to become part of the Berry family just like I was part of the Phoenix family.” Also attending the signing were: (seated, from left) Father Maurice Jones, mother Stephanie Jones, (standing, from left) Sonoraville High principal Jennifer Hayes, former Sonoraville High assistant girls basketball coach Cody Townsend, Sonoraville High head girls basketball coach Stephanie Caudell, Sonoraville High assistant girls basketball coach Shawnda Martin and Sonoraville High athletic director Brent Mashburn.
