Sportsmanship Award GCHS

Gordon Central High School was given the Sportsmanship Award for region 7AA for the 20-21 school year from the GHSA.

Gordon Central High School received the Sportsmanship Award for region 7AA for the 20-21 school year.

This award is selected by the region Athletic Directors to recognize the school that shows the greatest sportsmanship throughout the school year during all athletic events.

GC Athletic Director, Matt Swanson, stated “This is a great honor for our school. We have had great success this year with wins and trips to the GHSA state playoffs, which is great. However, if we do not teach our students to compete, win, and yes even lose with class and high character, we are failing our players. I would like to thank each of our coaches for teaching their teams to represent our school with class at all times. Go Warriors!”

Since 2006, the GHSA and Georgia’s EMCs have sponsored the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award which reinforces the GHSA philosophy: “Students, athletes, coaches, spectators and all others associated with high school activities programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty and responsibility.”

Schools winning this award are thus honored for displaying exemplary sportsmanship during competition throughout the school year.

Student athletes, fellow students, school staff, parents and event spectators are recognized for the sportsmanship they display. The award is not only a school honor, but a community honor as well.

The GHSA selects winners based upon sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the school year.
