Arbor Day seedling giveaway sees large turnout

Members of the community were lined up early at the Calhoun Recreation Department gym, 601 S. River St., Saturday morning for this year's Arbor Day tree seedling giveaway.Â
Keep Calhoun Gordon Beautiful, the City of Calhoun, the Calhoun Woman’s Club and Georgia Cumberland Academy combined efforts to give away a variety of seedlings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.Â
Varieties of trees included pecan, river birch, persimmon, bald cypress, paw paw, kousa dogwood, sweet bay magnolia, black locust, hawthorn, buttonbush, red oak and crepe myrtle. The event was free and open to the public.Â
