To Honor and Commemorate the former Board Chairman Wilburn Burnis Aker Jr., the Calhoun Housing Authority Board of Commissioners have renamed one of the authority’s community centers in his honor.

The former Oothcalooga Community Center will now be known as the “Wilburn Burnis Aker, Jr” Community Center to recognize the outstanding service of its long term, loyal, devoted, and exceptional Chairman.

Aker began serving the Calhoun Housing Authority in August of 1998 and became Chairman in 2011. He served as Chairman until his untimely passing in August of 2020. He was very active with the CHA’s non-profit New Foundations Development Inc., which was created to benefit families in need within Gordon County.

Mr. Aker was instrumental in helping guide the CHA and is greatly missed by the CHA staff and all of those who knew him.
