Museums and historic sites across America, including New Echota State Historic Site, will be celebrating Women’s History Month throughout the month of March.
Women’s History Month began as a national celebration on March 7, 1982, as Women’s History Week. State and Federal Government resolutions continued to declare a week in March as Women’s History Week until 1987, when President Jimmy Carter declared the month of March to be Women’s History Month.
Following this initial National Presidential Declaration, succeeding Presidents have issued a proclamation designating the month of March as Women’s History Month. These proclamations celebrate the contributions and achievements women have made over the course of American history.
New Echota offers daily tours, special exhibits, and Ranger programs throughout March and the rest of the year that highlight the contributions of Cherokee Women in tribal, state, and national events.
New Echota is located at 1211 Chatsworth Hwy 225 N, Calhoun, Ga. 30701, just one mile off I-75, at exit 317. For more information, and to view upcoming events, visit gastateparks.org/NewEchota online.
