Rome’s first turn as the host of the USTA Girls’ 14 and under National Championships ended Saturday as the finals were held at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.

Robin Montgomery, who made a solid showing throughout the tournament to reach the championship match, had little problem Saturday, winning the first set against Reese Brantmeier 6-0 before taking the next set 6-1.

The player from Washington, D.C., lost just one set in the week-long tournament, and won a tie-breaker in the Round of 32 that gave her the match. Montgomery won her next four matches in straight sets.

Brantmeier fought through some adversity in the quarterfinals and semifinals but came out on top each time after battling through three-set contests, the last of which came against Katja Wiersholm, the highest-ranked player that remained in the tournament. Wiersholm lost to Elaine Chervinsky 6-2, 6-0 in the third-place playoff Saturday morning.

In the doubles tournament, Texans Savannah Broadus and Kailey Evans defeated Carson Tanguilig of Alpharetta and Elise Wagle 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, Saturday in the finals.
