YOUTH SOCCER: Arsenal teams take 1st place on return from fall break

The Rome YMCA’s Arsenal Soccer Club Select teams came back from fall break with 9 wins and 7 losses this weekend to improve their season record 30-22-5.

Both the Arsenal teams in the G14-D West and the B17-III West divisions are in 1st place while two other teams are in 2nd in their respective division. The Academy went 0-2 with Dalton Saturday. On Sunday they traveled to Acworth and went up against the Metro Atlanta YMCAs going 8-7. Tuesday they hosted SSA Green of Cartesville with 1 win and 2 losses to make their season record 46-48-3.

The G14-D East lost to the Alpharetta Ambush 2-0 on Saturday and to GA Rush 2-0 in Milton on Sunday. That gives them a 1-4 record and puts them in 7th place. They host 8th place SSA Chelsea Gold Saturday.

The G14-D West topped the Lady Chiefs Blue 7-0 Sunday. The win vaults Arsenal into 1st place in the division with a 3-0-1 record. Six different players found the back of the net in the contest. Joey Kunczewksi opened the scoring with 2 goals in the 1st 10 minutes of play, staking Arsenal to a 2-0 lead. Ashley Marin, Payton Brown and Malone Christen all added goals in the first half. Carlee Brock and Hayley Alred scored in the second half. Deyvis Reader and Tatum Ballinger teamed in goal to post the shutout. Kunczeswki is second in the league in scoring with 4 goals, while Marin is tied for 3rd with 3. Arsenal returns to action Saturday when the squad hosts 10th place Mays Striker.

The G16-A lost to SAF 3-0 in Warner Robins last weekend and to SSA Chelsea Yellow 4-3 Sunday.

The G16-D beat 6th place UFA in Norcross 4-2 to improve their record to 4-2 and move into 4th place.

The G19-A lost to UFA in Cumming 4-1 last weekend. On Sunday they lost to Atlanta’s Tophat 5-1. This weekend they host Atlanta’s 7th place All In FC on Saturday and Watkinsville’s 9th place Oconee Elite Sunday.

The B13-III West improved their record to 5-0 by defeating Concorde Fire Central White in Atlanta 4-2. Goalkeeper Will Payne had 5 saves. Link Lignell was fouled early in the 1st half, and Isaiah Johnson scored on the PK. Jacob Davis crossed the ball to the box, assisting Lignell on his 1st goal.  Lignell provided an assist to Maddox Pyle, who scored a goal with his fast attack. Lignell then scored his 2nd goal of the game, unassisted, to seal the victory. The team is in 2nd place behind SSA Yellow with 2 games in hand and will return to action next weekend with away games with 7th place Lagrange and 10th place Conyers.

The B14-IIIW remain in 5th after defeating 7th place Concorde Fire South Black 5-1. They travel next weekend to Fayetteville Concorde Fire Central White.

The B15-I lost to 4th place Athens United Gold 3-1 to fall to 8th place. Next weekend they travel to Alpharetta Saturday to play 10th place Concorde Fire North Elite then on Sunday all the way to Savannah for a game with 3rd place SSA Premier.

The B15-VW beat 4th place Nexus Premier 5-3 in Stockbridge to stay in 3rd. Next weekend they host Griffin’s 6th place Excel Navy.

The B17-III West beat the 5th place AFC Lightning 2-1 on Saturday then traveled to Buckhead to beat the last place BFC 5-1. Next weekend they travel to Atlanta to play 9th place NASA on Saturday then host 3rd place Smyrna Sunday. Their perfect 6-0 record has them in 1st place.

The B19-II beat Dacula’s 11th place GSA North 7-1 on Saturday. They sprang into action at the first whistle with a goal by Christopher Castro assisted by Rahdriq Turner in the first 5 minutes followed by goals from 5 Turner and Charlie Cruz. Turner finished the half with back to back goals for a hat trick. They came out strong after the half with two goals by Charlie Cruz for the second hat trick of the game. On Sunday they beat McDonough’s 10th place CC Cavalier 4-2 on Sunday where they started off strong with a PK for Sergio Vasquez. They kept up the heat with a second goal rocketed in by Castro and finished the half with a header by Cade Graham off a corner sent in by Arturo Leon. The Cavalier slipped one in just before the half but they would not be undone. They came out strong with a 2nd goal by Castro and finished with a 4-2 win. Their 4-1-1 record has them in 2nd place.

The Academy got 9 wins and 11 losses this weekend.

The G9 beat Cobb Striker Blue 4-1 with goals from Avagail Barksdale (2), Lilianna Tapia, and Annabel Chandler. Brylee Salmon and Iris McHaggee were standout in goal.

The G10 lost to Striker Blue 7-0 and Striker White 6-0.

The G11 beat Striker Blue 5-1, with goals from Sarah Ekey (2, assists Lexi Day and Aiden Hurst), Day, Teagan Bollwerk (assist Regina Campos), and Camilla Laguna (assist Campos). Madalyn Cruz made 5 saves in goal.

The G12 lost to Striker Blue 2-1.

The B9 crushed Striker Blue 7-0.  The heat seemed to fuel the boys through to an impressive win, with goals right off the start by Abraham Sanchez and Markus Price. They finished the first  half strong with two more goals by Saul Valerio and AG Edwards. The heat did not stop them as they came back strong after the half with goals by Wallace Ordonez and 2nd goals by all four; Markus, Saul, AG and Wallace. Grant Molnar in goal and Bryant Abney on defense had an amazing game with a complete shut out. The 2nd game against Buckhead Green was a 4-3 victory.  Julio Cesar Cux started the game with a goal assisted by Andon Rosser, and he got a 2nd assisted by Spencer Baker. They finished strong in the second half with two more goals and an assist by Henry Rodriguez and Markus Price. Abney and Rosser defended in goal with 10 great saves for the second win of the day.

The B10 lost to Buckhead Blue 3-1 and Striker White 7-2. Tuesday they lost to SSA Green of Cartersville 6-1.

The B11 lost to Dalton Saturday 7-4. On Sunday they beat Striker Blue 5-2 with goals from Tripp Watterson (Giovani Echanique assist), Marley Price (2, Watterson assist), Trey Luke, and Zeke Donner (John Myles Mason assist). They then beat Striker White 5-4 with goals from Giovanni Echanique (4) and Brallam Cux, assists from Watterson and Evans Drinkard. Lastly they beat Buckhead Green 3-1 with 2 goals from Kostas Pateritsas and one from Drinkard. Tuesday they beat SSA Green 5-1 with goals from Klae Theakston, Echanique (2), Drinkard, and Dimitri Castro.

The B12 lost Dalton 7-2 Saturday. Sunday they lost to Striker Blue 4-1, Striker White 5-1 with a goal from Yahir Pineda, and beat Buckhead Green 1-0 with a goal from Sebastian Ramirez. Tuesday they lost to SSA Green 7-2.
