Both Rome YMCA Arsenal Soccer Club teams in action last weekend fell one game short at the D2 Tournament finals in Hampton.

The B16 team lost to GSA Red 5-1. Andreas Svardh scored the Arsenal team’s only goal off a throw-in by Luis Guzman.

The A15 team played the Rockdale Youth Soccer Association’s Blue Team in the Division 2 state championship game and lost 2-1.

The Rockdale team went ahead in the 13th minute by converting on a corner kick. After the initial score both teams settled down for the rest of the half going back and forth. In the 11th minute of the second half, Arsenal leveled the score at 1-1 when Lauren Akemon scored on a volley, assisted by Jayden Boswell. For the rest of the half the two teams went back and forth.

It appeared the championship might go to extra time or even kicks from the mark. Unfortunately RYSA’s Blue scored the winning goal with 30 seconds left in the game. Arsenal keeper Emma Couch made 13 saves.
