Seniors, J.P. Popham (126 pounds), Jacob Stepp (195) and freshman Colin Espy (138 pounds) all won Region 1 titles in their weight class and competed at the state tournament as No. 1 seeds.

Freshman Zane Waits (132) also qualified for the state tournament with a fourth-place finish at the region meet.

The Lions had a good showing at the GISA state tournament with Stepp coming up with a second-place finish and Popham placing sixth.

“The guys have worked hard this season and it really showed at the region and state tournament,” saind Lions second-year head coach Lonagren Honore. “I’m proud of my two seniors and will miss their leadership next season.”

The Lions also celebrated a championship in wrestling in Dublin at the first middle school championship hosted by Trinity Christian School. Lion’s eighth grader Joel Popham (95 pounds) capped an undefeated middle school season (13-0) by winning the title in his weight class and earning the Most Outstanding Wrestler award for the tournament as voted on by the coaches.

The Lions are coached by Lonagren Honore’ and Assistant Coach, UCS alumni, Luke Lansdell.
