WRESTLING: Gordon Lee first, Ridgeland fifth at Murray County Invitational

Walker County teams took two of the top five spots in the team standings and combined for nine individual champions at the Murray County Invitational in Chatsworth on Saturday.

Gordon Lee, who won the Class A State Duals title last weekend, won the team title with an even 300 points in the 13-team field. The Trojans were followed in the top five by Calhoun (228), Ringgold (148), host Murray County (114), and Ridgeland (83.5).

The Trojans finished with seven of the 14 individual champions. Winning first place for Gordon Lee included Stihl Lance (106 pounds), Jonny Ragsdale (113), Dylan Skipper (132), Alex Spires (138), Will Jacks (145), Corey Jewell (195), and Dallas Alder (285).

Mika Clark (126) was second. Blake Clayton (120), Sydney Rhinehart (152), Clayton Reeves (170), Shane Farmer (182), and Dallas Goodlet (220) each took third, while Jonathan Bettis (160) was fourth.

Cody Brooks won the 126-pound title for Ridgeland, recording a pin in every single match and taking home the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler award in the process. Casey Daniel (152) also won first place, while Cody Davis (160) was second.

Gordon Lee will join LaFayette at Ridgeland High School on Thursday for the annual Walker County Cup. Matches are slated to begin at 5 p.m.
