The Coosa girls’ soccer team made a statement in its first Region 7-AA battle Thursday with a 6-1 win at Chattooga.
The Lady Eagles (3-0, 1-0 7-AA) were aided with a hat trick from Emily Martin, while Jasmine Oinon recorded two goals.
Debra Barker scored one goal on Chattooga (2-7, 1-5), as the Lady Eagles remained unbeaten early in the season.
Coosa plays again Monday when it travels to Gordon Central.

Model girls 9, Dade County 3
The Model girls’ soccer team continued its run of blowout wins on Thursday as it went on the road and decimated Dade County, 9-3. It is the third time this season the Lady Devils have won by more than five goals.
Model (5-2, 4-1 7-AA) was led by Jennifer Espinoza’s five goals, while Kyla Reynolds scored twice for the Lady Devils. Ann Ruth Parker and Alissa Clark each scored a goal, and keeper Melanie Morrison recorded two saves.
The Lady Devils play again today at Armuchee.
Model boys 3, Dade County 0
Model’s boys bounced back a day after its first Region 7-AA loss and took down Dade County 3-0 on Thursday.
The Blue Devils (5-2, 4-1 7-AA) got two goals from Logan Burdette, both coming in the first half and only four minutes apart. Tee Jarrard and Matthew Syverson provided the assists. Jason Ortega scored an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute.
Model plays again today with a road game against Armuchee.
BASEBALL: Coosa 4, Dade County 2
The Coosa baseball team got the start to Region 7-AA it wanted with a 4-2 win Thursday over Dade County.
Eagles pitcher Caleb Shiftlett started the game and went five innings, striking out eight and allowing five hits and one earned run. Glenn Nicholson pitched two scoreless innings and picked up the win, while Jay Hamby recorded two hits. The game was tied at two until the sixth inning when Reece Barnett knocked in Hamby with a double. Dylan Callahan added some insurance with an RBI single to make it 4-2.
The Eagles (4-6, 1-0 7-AA) play again today when it travels to Summerville to play Chattooga.
TENNIS: Armuchee handles Chattooga
The Armuchee tennis teams picked up a pair of wins Thursday as both defeated Chattooga at the Rome Tennis Center. The girls won 4-1 while the boys won 5-0. Both improve to 2-2.
For the boys, No. 1 singles player Riley Purdy won 6-1, 6-4, while Luke Purdy won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3. No. 3 singles player Eli Brock went extra to win 5-7, 6-3, 10-7. In doubles, Levi Johnson and Dawson Windatt won 6-1, 6-4, while Jackson House and Trent Weaver won 6-2, 6-1.
On the girls’ side, No. 1 singles player Brooke Dellis won 6-1, 6-0, No. 2 player Belle Tanner won 6-2, 6-2, and No. 3 player Madison Bartlett won 6-4, 6-0. The doubles team of Haley Mathis and Taylor Harris also won, 6-1, 6-1.
Armuchee plays again Tuesday against Model at the Rome Tennis Center.
Model sweeps Dade County
Model’s tennis teams hardly dropped a game Thursday as both the boys and girls beat Dade County 5-0 at the Rome Tennis Center.
On the boys’ side, No. 1 singles player Parker Stone won 6-0, 6-0, while No. 2 David Mountain won 6-0, 6-2. Chase Geier won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, John Weaver and Stephen Boylan, as well as Sam Bryant and Micah Veillon won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
For the girls, No. 1 singles player Ashlan Godfrey won 6-1, 6-1, No. 2 player Bailey Upton won 6-0, 6-0, and No. 3 player Meredith Leonard continued the trend with a 6-1, 6-0 win. The doubles team of Natalie Davis and Regan Dooley won 6-1, 6-0, and the team of Macy Early and Evalyn Edwards won 6-0, 6-3.
Model plays again Tuesday against Armuchee at the Rome Tennis Center.
Rockmart teams dominate Dade
The Rockmart tennis teams didn’t drop a single match Thursday as both the boys’ and girls’ teams got 5-0 wins over visiting Dade County.
The Jackets No. 1 singles Timothy Malone won 6-1, 6-0, No. 2 player Koby Adams won 6-2, 2-6, 11-4, and No. 3 Jackson Norris finished with a 6-2, 6-1 win. The doubles team of Bennett Vest and Hunter England won 6-2, 6-3, while the team of Austyn Shelton and Dawson Scoggins won 6-1, 6-1.
Rockmart’s girls got wins from No. 1 singles Emma Evans (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 Mary Ella Owen (6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 Taylor McVey (6-0, 6-1). In doubles, the team of Anna Smith and Alexis Clayton won 6-2, 6-1, and the team of Rose Haney and Alexis Casey won 6-1, 7-5.
Rockmart (4-1, 1-0 7-AA) plays again Monday when it takes on Coosa at the Rome Tennis Center.
