Spring sports are warming up for Polk schools

Despite wintry cold mornings and chilly afternoons, the spring sports at Rockmart and Cedartown High School are starting to warm up in preparation for the upcoming spring seasons.

According to the Georgia High School Association, varsity tennis practices were allowed to start on Monday, Jan. 13.

This week, track and field practices and soccer practices were permitted to start. Both were allowed to open preseason practices on Monday, Jan. 20.

Baseball will be next on the spring schedule, starting practices on Jan. 27. This year, Cedartown will have only two and a half weeks of practice before hosting a scrimmage game. The Bulldogs will entertain Darlington on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.

The baseball regular season opener will be Wednesday, Feb. 19 at home against Coosa. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 5:30 p.m.

Golf will be the last spring sport to start practices, as they are not permitted to begin practicing until Monday, Feb. 17.
