Spring sports are warming up at Cedartown

Athletes at Cedartown High School are bearing the cold weather to prepare for the upcoming spring sports seasons.

According to the Georgia High School Association, all the spring sports except for golf are allowed to already start practicing.

Tennis programs were permitted to start practices on Jan. 14, while soccer and the track and field programs were allowed to start practicing on Jan. 21.

Baseball was given the green light to start official practices on Jan. 28. Golf teams will be permitted to start practicing together on Feb. 18.

With practices under way for most sports, or about to start for other programs, that means spring games will be starting soon.

Soccer will be the first spring sport to play a regular season game. The Lady Bulldogs will start on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Darlington in a game that is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs are slated to open the 2013 season on Feb. 15 when both the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs visit Woodland.

The baseball team will scrimmage Darlington on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at home at 5 p.m. The regular season gets under way Tuesday, Feb. 19 at home against Chattooga at 5:30 p.m.

Cedartown’s tennis program gets the season rolling on Thursday, Feb. 21 at Rockmart at 4:30 p.m. Their first home match will be Friday, Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m. against Jacksonville.

The track and field teams will participate in their first meet of the year on Thursday, Feb. 28 when they travel to Cartersville High School.
