Despite the winter weather, spring sports at Rockmart High School are kicking into gear.

The tennis programs were allowed to start practices on Jan. 14, according to the Georgia High School Association. Soccer was allowed to start next, with practices permitted to get under way on Jan. 21, as were the track and field programs.

Baseball was allowed to start practicing this week, opening up on Jan. 28. Golf teams will be permitted to start practicing together on Feb. 18.

With practices under way for most sports, or about to start for other programs, that means spring games will be starting soon.

The Rockmart tennis teams start the season on Feb. 12, hosting Pepperell in their season openers. Rockmart will then entertain Cedartown on Feb. 21.

Baseball opens Tuesday, Feb. 19 at home against Bremen at 5 p.m. On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the Yellow Jackets will host Coosa at 5 p.m. and then on Friday, Feb. 22, Rockmart will visit their Polk County rivals Cedartown for a 5 p.m. contest.

The Rockmart Track and field teams will start on Feb. 28 in a home meet.
