ROUNDUP: Pepperell opens season with win

Andrew Wilder scored 17 points Friday to lift the Pepperell boys’ basketball team to an 82-78 season-opening win against Dade County. Dawson Melton added 16 points for the Dragons (1-0), and Jamal Ware scored nine.

Pepperell will play at Model on Tuesday.

Pepperell girls 41, Dade County 35

The Pepperell girls’ basketball team took down Dade County on Friday with a 41-35 win. Grace Hufford led Pepperell with 10 points. The Lady Dragons (2-1) will travel to face Model on Tuesday.

Chattooga boys 97, Armuchee 65

Tae Allen led the Armuchee boys’ basketball team with 11 rebounds, however Chattooga came away with a 97-65 win.

Brayden Perry scored 26 points for Armuchee (0-6, 0-1), Tamalachi Lovelace added 11 points, and Brantson Duck scored 10 points. Armuchee will next host Gordon Central on Tuesday.

Armuchee girls 55, Chattooga 32

The Armuchee girls’ basketball team improved to 4-2 on the season Friday with a 55-32 win against Chattooga.

Livia Skinner scored 17 points to lead Armuchee, and Brandy Ann Wacker added 10 points. Chattooga’s Ziyah Underwood scored 12 points.

Armuchee (4-2) will next face Gordon Central on Tuesday at home.

Darlington boys 49, First Presbyterian Day 39

The Darlington boys’ basketball team opened its season Friday at home with a 49-39 win against First Presbyterian Day. J.D. Hull scored 16 points to lead the Tigers (1-0), and Andrew Land added 11 points.

The Tigers will next face Cedartown today at home at 4:30 p.m.

Tigers take 4th in tournament

The Darlington wrestling team opened the season Friday with a fourth-place finish at a Mount Zion tournament. 

The Tigers had four finish as champions: Dalton Blankenship (132 pounds), Colton Woods (138), Davis Peek (145) and Rhett McDurmond (160).

Carl McDurmond (120) and Garrett Sheffield (170) came away with third-place finishes, and Collin Zazzaro (220) finished fourth.

The Tigers will compete again Saturday at the Warrior Classic at North Atlanta High School.
