Three Armuchee volleyball players were recognized as part of Senior Night festivities as the Lady Indians hosted Chattooga and Model in their final Area 3-AA matches of the regular season.
A battle of the Lady Indians kicked off the evening as Armuchee and Chattooga played for essentially the No. 2 seed in the area tournament, which will be held Saturday at top-seed Coosa.
After splitting their previous two matches, Chattooga took the first set 25-19 before Armuchee recovered and pulled out a 25-20 win in the second. But Chattooga capitalized on some tough unforced errors by Armuchee in the decisive set and took it and the match with a 25-17 score.
Armuchee (17-13, 5-2 3-AA) won its second match of the night in two sets with a 25-17, 25-13 win over Model to lock down the No. 3 seed for the tournament. The Lady Blue Devils held a 12-8 lead in the second set before Armuchee rallied back. Chattooga (19-11, 6-1) swept Model with back-to-back 25-13 sets.
Armuchee seniors Gabby Agan, Victoria Reese and BrandyAnn Wacker received praise from Decker for their performances and their leadership on the court, but he was quick to point out that they have an opportunity to see Chattooga again on Saturday.
“Just knowing the way our tournament is set up, the chances of a rematch with them are fairly high,” Decker said. “So we can’t put everything on one game. We have to understand that we can bounce back and still control our own destiny.”
Model (3-27, 1-6) hosts Ringgold and Sonoraville on Thursday while Armuchee travels to Cedartown.
