As much as it has been a point of frustration this week for the Rome High football faithful, the situation remains the same: If the Wolves want to win back-to-back state championships, they will have to do so in Warner Robins.
Rome will take on the Warner Robins Demons for the Class 5A state championship game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in Warner Robins.
Initially, the game was to be a part of the Georgia High School Association’s annual football state championship weekend at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. But the contest was postponed last Friday because of the winter weather that moved through North Georgia.
On Wednesday, the GHSA officially announced that there would be no tickets sold prior to Friday’s game, and those hoping to get tickets at the stadium will have to wait.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and only those with tickets that were already purchased for last week’s game will be allowed in until 6:45 p.m., at which time game day tickets will be sold based on availability.
Tickets will be $20 at the gate.
The Rome High football Facebook page has become an unofficial ticket exchange this week, providing a way for fans to either offer up tickets they will not use or find people willing to sell their tickets.
Those who can’t make the three-hour trek to Warner Robins can still keep up with the game on the radio or online.
WGJK-99.5 FM, The Jock, will carry the game; while the National Federation of State High School Associations’ “Network LIVE” will have the game streaming on Facebook. It will not be on television.
