The Rome Lady Wolves got a 61-26 win over Hiram on Tuesday playing in the Region 7-5A tournament in Carrollton to earn a spot in the Class 5A state basketball playoffs.

They will be back in action Thursday in the region semifinals at Paulding County at 4 p.m.

Unity Christian girls 67, Horizon Christian 12

Some big performances led Unity Christian’s girls to a region tournament opening win Tuesday as they defeated Horizon Christian 67-12 in the GICAA Division 1-A North Region tournament.

Hosting the tournament, Unity Christian was led by Keri Glass’s 17 points while Alli Hardwell had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Maggie Whitehead had 12 points and 11 assists.

The Lady Lions will play Killian Hills Christian at Thursday at 7 p.m. for the region championship.

Unity Christian boys 51, Horizon Christian 27

Defense stood strong for the Unity Christian boys on Tuesday as they defeated Horizon Christian 51-27 in the GICAA Division 1-A North Region tournament at Unity Christian.

Josiah Petro led the Lions with 11 points while Huston Bryant and Brayden Dean each added eight. The team had 17 total steals to earn a spot in the region championship game on Thursday.

“We played extremely well on the defensive end tonight,” Unity coach Matt Claytor said. “We talk about playing with a sense of urgency on defense. Our guys really bought in and played each possession as if the game depended on it.”

Unity Christian (15-6) will play Shiloh Hills Christian on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
