Prep baseball: Pepperell repeats victory over Coosa

  • ()

In just under a week, the Pepperell Dragons have twice defeated crosstown rival Coosa.

On Thursday, the Dragons won 4-0, shutting out Coosa with the help of pitcher Nick Williams, who pitched for six innings to racked up nine strikeouts.

The runs were scored off Bryce Adams’ two-RBI single in the second inning, an RBI single from Jackie Harwell in the fourth inning and a balk also in the fourth inning.

Pepperell coach Wright Edge said he was happy with the team's second shutout win over the Eagles after playing Coosa last Friday at State Mutual Stadium.

"I'm starting to see a lot of good things," Edge said. "They've been working hard, and I anticipate good things out of them if they can do the same thing from here on out."

Adams went 2-for-3 from the plate while Harwell went 3-for3.

Zach O’Neal, Caleb Jackson, Bradley Adams, Zach Williams and Evan Ashley all went 1-for-3, and with Bradley Adams’ hit being a triple.

Despite the strong performance from the plate, Edge said wins aren't going to come just from offensive efforts, and that his pitching staff would continue to put in hard work for the Ws.

"I feel really confident in the pitchers that we have," he said. "I also feel very confident in our hitters. So if it really comes down to it I've got a lot of confidence in my pitchers.”

Coosa coach Gus Bell said his team would need to rally from the loss and get ready for their upcoming games as they travel to face Cedartown on Saturday and then Chattooga on Tuesday and come home and host Calhoun on Thursday.

"Our kids still feel positive about it, and we'll get them again one more time," Bell said.

Pepperell will face off against North Murray in a makeup game on Monday.
