MONDAY'S PREP ROUNDUP: Rockmart tennis sweeps Pepperell

The Rockmart tennis teams swept Pepperell on Monday.

The girls improved to 6-1 on the year, while the boys moved to 4-2.

For the girls at No. 1 singles, Emma Evans won 6-1, 6-0; at No. 2 singles, Mary Ella Owen won 6-0, 7-6; at No. 3 singles, Taylor McVay won 6-0, 7-6.

At No. 1 doubles, Alexis Clanton and Anna Smith won 6-1, 6-1; at No. 2 doubles, Alexis Casey and Rosey Haney won 7-5, 7-6.

For the boys, at No. 1 singles, Timothy Malone won 6-1, 6-3; at No. 2 singles, Jackson Norris was 6-2, 6-1; at No. 3 singles, Bennett Best won 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Elijah Malone and Hunter Ingram won 6-7, 6-1, 10-7; at No. 2 doubles, Dylan Mahan and Caleb Shelton won 6-4, 6-4.

Rockmart will next host Gordon Central today.

Armuchee 18, Gordon Central 1

Armuchee’s baseball team rolled to a region-opening win Monday in an 18-1 victory against Gordon Central.

Sam Russell earned the win for the Indians (4-4, 1-0). He pitched four innings, struck out six and allowed no earned runs.

At the plate, Gauge Burkett was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Branston Duck had three RBIs, Jacob Stanley was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, Ethan Nixon was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Brayden Perry was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

Armuchee will next face Dade County on the road Friday.
