Girls basketball: Lady Wolves' third quarter surge not enough

  • ()

The Rome High girls staged a big rally in the third quarter Tuesday night, but then were victimized by Villa Rica’s rally in the fourth.

Playing their first game in the Region 5-AAAAA tournament, the Lady Wolves suffered a 50-44 loss to Villa Rica at Paulding County High.

The defeat denied the Lady Wolves of capturing a berth in the state tournament.

Rome trailed by 11 points in the third quarter, but charged back to take a three-point lead in the fourth quarter. Villa Rica, however, responded down the stretch and rallied past the Lady Wolves.

Rome’s Maleia Fain finished with 13 points and Astri Dupree had 11.
