FOOTBALL: Trion powers past LaFayette

Trion quarterback Cory Bethune passed for 70 yards with two touchdowns and also compiled 109 rushing yards with one touchdown to lead the Bulldogs to their second straight win.

Trion’s Malik Martin rushed for 97 yards on 14 carries in the win.

Trion’s Gabe Howell opened the scoring with a five-yard running touchdown in the first quarter.

Howell then hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Cory Bethune and Austin Weaver kicked the extra point for a 13-0 Trion lead.

Trion’s Cory Bethune ran for a 57-yard touchdown in the second quarter, stretching Trion’s lead to 19-0.

LaFayette’s Lance Estus scored a 17 yard running touchdown and Dylan Queen kicked the extra point to cut the deficit to 19-7.

In an exciting last play of the half for Trion, Cory Bethune threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Chandler Lathem and Weaver added the extra point to give Trion a 26-7 lead at the half.

Chandler Lathem scored the only points in the third quarter, forcing a safety on Lafeyette.

In the fourth quarter, Trion’s Drake Clowdis had an 11-yard touchdown run and Weaver, again connected on the extra point for a 35-7 Trion lead.

LaFayette’s Kolbe Mosley scored a 3-yard touchdown and Dylan Queen kicked the extra point to set the final margin.

Trion will travel next week to Walker School while Lafayette will be at home against Cedartown.
