After scoring 28 points or more in five straight games, the Darlington offense came back down to earth.
The Tigers were unable to score in a 6-0 loss to Whitefield Academy in the Region 6-A play-in game Friday night in Mableton. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Darlington and negatively affects their spot in the Class A power rankings.
Tailback Kolin Rogers led Darlington with 102 total yards, while Karl Swiger recorded 77 total yards. Quarterback Griffin Brewster finished the night 8-for-15 for 62 passing yards.
Darlington’s first and final drives of the game both reached the red zone, but turnovers killed both scoring chances. In between those drives, the Tigers were unable to get any rhythm going to break the shutout.
The Tigers entered the game ranked No. 10 in the Class-A Private Power Rankings, but the loss could knock the team down a few spots. If it remains ranked No. 16 or better, Darlington will still host a playoff game next week.
