FOOTBALL: Cedartown's Tyler Prewett signs with Pikeville

Cedartown High School football head coach Scott Hendrix knew for the past four years that there was always one player he could count on each Friday night – lineman Tyler Prewett.

Now University of Pikeville head football coach Dudley Hilton is expecting the same.

On Wednesday on National Signing Day, Prewett signed his letter of intent to play at the Kentucky school for the next four years. Pikeville competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as a member of the Mid-South Conference.

“It feels great to sign,” Prewett said. “It’s an amazing feeling.”

Prewett said he chose the Bears for several reasons.

“It felt most like home,” Prewett said. “And they had a good environment up there.”

The strong lineman said he will major in one of two things.

“I want to major in something in sports medicine or perhaps become a PE teacher,” Prewett said.

Hendrix noted how Prewett was someone the entire coaching staff could count on to play hard each and every week.

“Tyler was a four year starter for us,” Hendrix said. “Every since I came back to Cedartown as the head coach, he has been a starter here. Tyler is very dependable and hard-working. He is a good young man.”

Hendrix continued in his praise of Prewett.

“Tyler is a good student, a good person and a good player,” Hendrix said.

Prewett wanted to thank several people for helping him reach this point in life.

“I want to thank my family, my friends, my teammates and the coaching staff,” Prewett said.
