Floyd County will be well represented in the finals of the GHSA Cheerleading State Championships today in Columbus.

Coosa and Pepperell finished in the top eight during the Class AA state sectionals held Friday morning and earned a spot in today’s finals, which begin at 9 a.m. at the Columbus Civic Center.

The two squads join Armuchee in today’s competition, which bypassed the sectionals after winning the Region 7-AA title last weekend.

Coosa took second while Pepperell was third.

Pepperell was the Class AA state runner-up last season.

Model and Rockmart both performed during the sectional competition on Friday but did not make the cut to move on to the finals.

Cedartown, the defending Class 4A state champions, will take the floor for the morning session today. The team won the 5-4A title and were able to bypass Friday’s sectionals as well.

Trion finished as the state runner-up in the Class A Public finals Friday night after earning a score of 87.17. Gordon Lee took the title with a score of 89.17.
