The Coosa basketball teams have a busy week ahead of them.
The teams will face Region 7-AA foe Murray County today in make-up games. The girls will tip-off at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Starting the week early is just the beginning. Coosa will then host Calhoun on Tuesday, host Model on Friday, and travel to Dade County on Saturday.
Two of the matchups are make-up games because of the weather — today’s games against Murray County and Saturday’s games against Dade County.
The Eagles are 12-6 overall and 5-3 in the region. They’re looking to extend their winning streak to five games.
Coosa head boys coach John McFather is okay with the busy schedule with the upcoming region tournaments.
“I think our team is up for it,” said McFather. “We play a lot of guys anyway, from 10-12 each night, so that should help us. The good thing is playing these games its more similar to what you have in tournament time. That could work in our favor.”
McFather is optimistic about his team’s performance during the upcoming week.
“I feel like our guys are improving each and every game,” said McFather. “One big thing is we’re beginning to get a little healthy. The flu bug hit us early in the year. We’re beginning to play a lot better on defense. Our guys are buying into team defense a whole lot more. They’re doing the necessary things to do to win ballgames. They’re showing signs of maturing. We feel pretty good, but we fully respect Murray County.”
