BOYS BASKETBALL: Rockmart draws Johnson-Savannah in state playoffs

  • ()
After putting together a magical Region 4-AAA tournament run, the Rockmart High School Yellow Jackets will look to do the same in the Class AAA state basketball tournament.
Rockmart entered the region tournament 8-16 overall and seeded sixth out of eight teams. However, the Yellow Jackets won three of their four games at region - including Saturday's 53-51 win over Chapel Hill - to clinch the No. 3 seed from region four.
The Yellow Jackets built a double digit lead over the Panthers Saturday at Douglass High School, only to see Chapel Hill come roaring back. Rockmart led by two points with five seconds left, when Chapel Hill got the ball for a chance tie the game, but their shot missed the mark to give the Yellow Jackets the victory.
The Yellow Jackets (11-17) will now travel to Savannah to square off with Johnson-Savannah (20-6), the No. 2 seed from Region 1-AAA.
